Stone and Asphalt

After removing an existing track and field event surface, it is often advisable to overlay the existing pavement with a new leveling course of asphalt. The line and grade of previously placed but poorly executed pavements can be corrected with this process. It is necessary to survey the pavement and engineer an overlayment that corrects the improper slopes and corrects any geometry defects. Precision Sports Surfaces, Inc. has expert staff that have decades of experience doing this type of planning.

For additions, a minimum thickness of 6” of crushed stone aggregate should be used under a track. In colder climates, it is customary to increase that thickness. The stone base should be graded and compacted to a very close tolerance.

We recommend two separate courses of asphalt for new asphalt pavements. This allows for better quality control during construction.
